Read it and weep
What is it with the media and their bias towards Oldham?
Upsetting was the League Express' view that the game turned on what
they thought was a 'controversial penalty' - I always thought that if a
player kicked the ball and a player in front of him played it he was offside.
But it looks like I was wrong all these years. I did notice that there
was no mention of the quite appalling refereeing decision that saw Mr King
ignore a blatant 40-20 and hand possession to Oldham. Quite simply their
reporter Keith McGhie (A Biff, no doubt) thought that the ref cost Oldham
the game. No, you idiot - not scoring enough points cost them the game.
Oh, and he described all of the Oldham tries in glowing detail, whilst
just mentioning that Hornets happened to score occasionally.
Entertaining, though was the rousing chorus that reminded GMR (W-)anchor
man - and brown-nosed Oldham acolyte - Jack Dearden, who had taken the
spoils. Whether or not that had any influence over his patently fawning
attempt to suck up to Martin Hall afterwards, we don't know - but we do
know that it's his 50th birthday today and we've given him the best possible
present.
Happy Birthday Jack - Four-nil!
