Sunday's Coming
So, it all comes down to this. The outcome of this marathon season that
began last December with a stuttering win against Batley hangs on the result
of Sunday’s game against Doncaster.
After last season’s monumental over-achievement, the detractors were
keen to to call it a flash in the pan, but Hornets have shown again that
there is great potential at out club - and when it shimmers to the surface,
we are able to to cut swathes through this division.
Third place last season was dismissed by some as a fluke - but where
once might be considered fortunate, twice looks like you mean it. But this
season our destiny is in our own hands. A win ensures that Hornets gain
third place, deserved glory and the crucial home advantage in the early
stages of the playoffs.
Sunday’s game matters to Doncaster too. Four points adrift and with
two games remaining, a victory for them gives them a battling chance for
third. There really is everything to play for.
Sunday’s game has the importance of a cup final in itself. A whole
season’s effort hanging on 80 minutes. The support the fans have given
the club this season has been tremendous and our efforts on Sunday can
really give the players a vital lift.
Doncaster fans are having a ‘wear your old club jersey’ day - it’s a
great idea that gives Hornets supporters the chance to wear their colours
with pride and make our presence known. Last season’s trip to Doncaster
saw the Hornets support spread all over the ground and our efforts diluted.
If we are to contribute in such a vital game we should metaphorically and
literally stand together, so let’s all meet up on the main stand side of
the ground.
It’s our last game of the regular season before the playoffs. The most
important game of what’s been a long and arduous journey. Let’s end it
together and end it in style. See you there. Onward Hornets Onward.
