Donny preview 25/07/2003 Jim
Sunday's Coming
It's been an interesting week over at the former House of Pain. Star five-eighth Paul Manssonn has - for reasons better known to himself - jumped the Doncaster ship and joined the decks-awash Dull KR.

It's reported that the Dons have signed former Super League fatboy Graham Holroyd on loan to cover the hole - but given his loyalty to Swinton earlier this year ( he 'signed' for the Lions on the Tuesday and by Thursday he'd gone to Huddersfield... or Halifax... or some crap SL side beginning with 'H'), I'll wait until I see him for myself before I allow myself a chuckle.

If he does start, he'll be most likely up against Radney - who's hopefuly put pen to paper to stay the rest of the season by now - so that's a no-contest for starters.

Last week the Dons shocked everybody by losing at Oldham. Having seen the Oldham leviathan attempting a three-hundred point turn here at Spotland, we can only assume it was a very bad day at the office.

St John Ellis - one of Rugby league's nice guys, in contradiction of his touchline jumping around/arm waving persona - has assembled again a tight-knit, workmanlike unit that pushes teams back, moves the ball around and gives you plenty of problems.

The addition of Anthony SeuSeu at prop has given an already formidable pack a bit more grunt. And with Peter Edwards and, possibly Maea David in the mix, it's a big, mobile six.

Across the backline, PJ Solomon looks the most-likely to cause problems and he's joined out wide by Alex Muff. No... stop it.

Hornets should look very much like we did last week when we out-toughed a dreadfully boring Dull KR. We belied the dimensions of the Craven Park pitch last week to play as expansive a game as it's possible to do. And the repeated breaking of the defensive line gives Hornets supporters plenty of encouragement.

Without doubt, the combination of Bowker and Larder has been a joy to see and the tactic of shuffling hookers has been an innovative move by Hally - just when a side gets used to handling one pattern of play, they're faced with a completely different style. And by the time they've adapted, Pach comes back and runs at a tired defence. It's genius - and Hally thought of it first!

With Featherstone at Salford on Sunday, the Doncaster game gives us a great opportunity to open up a huge swathe of daylight between us and the chasing pack. While some think that third is as good as we can go, we reckon that Leigh's sphincter might go as the pressure on Terzis mounts. And we should be there to take advantage.

It'll be a cracker on Sunday. Don't miss it!
