Where are they now?
Gary Bailey has been in touch
Ex-Hornet full back Gary Bailey has been in touch.
Gary was named in many "younger" fans Hornets' "dream team" which the messageboard ran over the summer.
He was also the Hornets' full back in the Yorkshire T.V. documentary "Another bloody Sunday", which followed Doncaster R.L. club as they searched for
a victory in 1980, including a visit to the Athletic Grounds in Feb 1980 where Hornets beat them 10-03.
Gary Says
"I had some good times at Rochdale and enjoyed doing what I could to send our fans home with a smile on their face.
I enjoyed going through the web site and was interesting to read that Alex Murphy is back at Leigh, thought he would have been finished by now. He took over at Salford before my move to Rochdale.
Unfortunately I had to finish my career after Rochdale (not out of choice) I had had a few injuries which had kept me off work for a while and then I started my own business and just couldn't find the time and couldn't afford to be off work.
I moved over to Canada in 1988 and after two to three years we started to settle and things just got better for us, so here we stayed.
No Rugby League over here, all Union (just not my style of game, not enough tackling) allthough a couple of years ago I got the urge to have a go at playing again and had a run out with a local team (Stoney Creek Camels). It was great to get back into tackling and kicking goals.
Doesn't sound too good for the Hornets at the moment but I gather other clubs are in similar situations. It seems if you are not in the top flight then it's a continual fight for survival. Hopefully everything turns out ok and they go on to fight to gain their rightful place.
Onward Hornets Onward"
