Bob is your uncle 30/01/2004 Media Man
Bob's 'yer Uncle!
Bobbie’s big adventure starts here - and we’re all going with him!

Everybody wants to talk to Bobby Goulding - and, it seems, he’s quite happy to talk to everybody.

The one thing that you an say about Bobbie Goulding is that he makes for great media coverage. His enthusiastic approach and high profile amongst the game’s scribes are perfect for gaining Hornets - and himself - some much needed, long-awaited positive publicity.

Fans got a hint of what was to come at this week’s Nest Egg meeting when an effervescent Goulding shared his thoughts on coaching, playing, referees and the prospects for the season - before spending time mixing with fans and chatting about about Hornets, the game and ‘being Bobbie Goulding’.

Given Bobbie’s involvement at Hornets and the mouthwatering prospect of the Challenge Cup tie against Dynamo Moscow next Sunday, the media frenzy has already started ahead of Hornets’ Arriva Trains Cup kick-off against Hunslet at South Leeds Stadium on Sunday.

‘Battered Goulding eyes return to fray’ writes the Telegraph’s John Whalley.

He continues: “Bobbie Goulding, back in rugby league as Rochdale's coach in National league Division One, insists he is looking forward to playing again when he recovers from an ankle injury.

Goulding takes charge for his first competitive game on Sunday when Rochdale are at Hunslet in an Arriva Trains Cup game - but the following week they face Dynamo Moscow in the Challenge Cup, a competition in which Goulding, 32 next week, has already won four winners' medals with Wigan and St Helens.

"I'm dead keen to play again but I can't say when," said Goulding whose last game was for Leigh 15 months ago. "I had an operation on my ankle four or five weeks ago and I want to make sure that's 100 per cent.

"It was a clean-out. I've had it done four times before. He had to go really deep into it this time. There's a lot of arthritis, and I'll have a re-construction - but not until the end of the season.

"The Challenge Cup is tempting. It's still the biggest competition in the world, and I've had a good association with it."

Goulding is confident a young side with the experience of Andy Leathem, Lee Hansen and Darren Shaw, his captain and assistant coach, will be competitive.”

The Bobby Goulding show continues on home ground next Wednesday at 12.30pm as he hosts a ‘Meet Bobby Goulding’ press conference at Spotland ahead of the Moscow tie.

The four times Challenge Cup medal winner with Wigan and Saints will host the assembled press, radio and TV reporters as he previews both the Challenge Cup and his first home game in charge of Rochdale Hornets.

The preview will include a press picture opportunity at where the Bobster will pose with the Powergen Challenge Cup on the pitch at Spotland Stadium.

Certainly, for a little fella, he makes a big impact - and Bobbie Goulding’s World Famous Rochdale Hornets kick off a whole new era at Hunslet on Sunday. This one really IS unmissable. The spirit in the club at Oldham was amazing and if you’ve ever claimed to be a Hornets supporter, now’s the time to get back on the bandwagon and savour the buzz.

It’s showtime - don’t miss it.
