Goulding “Chuffed”
FORMER Great Britain international Bobbie Goulding will introduce his new look Rochdale Hornets squad to supporters and the media this Thursday, January 10. Goulding has brought 23 new players to the club since he returned for a second spell in charge at Spotland.
Among them is his new club captain, the experienced former York and Dewsbury hooker Jim Elston.
Other notable recruits include talented Leigh stand-off Martin Ainscough, York centre Chris Spurr and Swinton second rower Paul Alcock.
A host of players have returned to Hornets for second spells with the club, headed by back rower Phil Farrell, who is also Goulding's assistant.
Local born utility player and fans favourite Sam Butterworth is also back at the club, along with Dave Newton, Chris Campbell, Dave Best and Chris Hough, who have all spent time in Rochdale colours before.
A handful of last season's squad have been retained, with young back rower Craig Robinson made vice captain.
And Goulding has handed opportunities to a host of talented young amateur players as well.
The ex-Wigan and St Helens star has been delighted with the players response in training so far.
'I didn't think I could get a better group of lads than I had here last time, but I've hit the jackpot again - they're even better,' Goulding said.
'They have made everything so much easier for me. '
'I'm just chuffed at the group of kids that I've got working for us, and I think we can surprise a few people and have a go.'
The meet the players night will take place at Spotland Stadium with a 6.00pm start. Entrance for fans is free and includes a Potato Pie Supper
