Hunslet 11/02/2001 Our Man at the Match

Hunslet were never in the hunt as Rochdale were 18 - 0 up at half time and then scored two quick tries early in the second half. A weeks a long time in politics and it's even longer in rugby League, was this the same team as last week?

Most of the names in the squad were the same but the way we played was completely different. A real pleasure to watch with every half chance executed with precision. The only "dodgy" try of the games was from Hunslet, How Michael Wainwright scored without there being some sort of knock on is beyond me. Hey in the end it didn't matter.

The opening try came from Marlon Billy, a lovely solo effort from out wide and 25 yards out, ending up under the posts. An easy conversion to add to an earlier penalty.

A superb flowing move with the ball passing through many hands produced another try, Robinson finishing it off. Andy Ireland was also having a great game

Later on Hunslet made a mistake and Billy again pounced to power home from 15 yards. As soon as he picked it up you knew he was going to score. Half-time and we were in dream land at 18-0.

Two early tries in the second half ended the contest. What was happening? every time we created a half chance we scored! It was fantastic.

The press man of the match was Darren Robinson who was in the dugout as it was announced earning a well earned rest

The crowd of 605 went home happy shouting "bring on the French", some are dreaming further ahead than this.

Tries Billy 2, Robinson, Watson, Larder, O'Meara , Calland : Goals Wood 3, Coates, Robinson : Hunslet try Wainwright.
