Hornets v Aussies

Hornets and Oldham merge? It's true ! Well, it was true. Just the once. Forty years ago this week.

On 4th September 1961 - a combined Oldham/Hornets team played the touring Kiwis at Watersheddings and beat them 10-8 with five penalty goals from Oldham utility back Johnny Noon. This was the last occasion either 'side' could claim a victory over a touring team.

Noon left Oldham following the Law Cup game of 1964 (in which he kicked 4 goals in an Oldham win) to become Hornets' Captain (seems the flow of players was pretty active even then)

The combined 'Oldham Hornets' team was:
1. W Atherton (Hornets)
2. T Simms (H)
3. J Noon (Oldham)
4. A Walsh (H)
5. T Unsworth (H)
6. A Kellet (O)
7. F Pitchford (O)
8. W Payne (O)
9. L McIntyre (O)
10. C Winslade (O)
11. G Robinson (O)
12. J Parr (H)
13. B McGurrin (H)
